Let the mudslinging begin

July 28, 2003

You knew that with such an abbreviated campaign schedule, the recall election would have to get down-n-dirty very fast. The mudslinging has begun–Davis’ folks are calling Issa anti-gay. This particular charge is actually accurate–Issa definitely has campaigned vigorously for (and funded generously) various anti-gay initiatives like the one to prevent gay marriages.

Still, even though the charge is accurate it’s also inflamatory. Davis is trying the typical strategy of winning an election by dividing the electorate–if he can appeal to various niche groups he hopes to muster the votes to defeat the recall election.

The thing is, thanks to various mis-steps like last year’s energy crisis Davis himself is so unpopular he can’t hope to win an election on his own merit. He’s gonna have to slam his opponents, or at least do the bashing thru his proxies like dear old Willie Brown.

Me, I’m probably gonna vote against the recall. Unless somebody interesting comes thru on the Republican side. Somebody like The Terminator himself. Then I might have to vote against Gray.
