Going open source
August 20, 2003Nice little interview with the CEO of a company that has dumped Microsoft in favor of going totally open source. Kinda uplifting story really, the little guy getting trampled on by Microsoft’s hired guns and then coming thru with an alternative that’s actually cheaper. The CEO actually thanks MS for forcing him to switch, because he’s saving so much annually in licensing.
Of course, there’s still the shadow of SCO’s Linux legal challenge hanging over the open source community. In the end I think SCO is going to lose or get bought by somebody just to shut them up. But the uncertainty has got to give CEO’s and CIO’s some pause if they’re considering making the switch to Linux-based software.
