Why the cookie crumbles
October 2, 2003I can’t believe somebody is working on their doctorate in this field of study, but apparently some doctoral candidates in Britain have found out why some cookies crumble. Who knew that this was such a big topic of interest?
I guess it makes sense from a commercial point of view–too many crumbled cookies means lost revenue for bakeries. The technique these guys used, speckle interferometry, is also used in astronomy. It helps bring out details at the very limit of a telescope’s resolution.
I wish I could find a cool topic like this to base a doctoral thesis upon.
