Thanksgiving at a Pacer’s game

Well, I didn’t spend all Thanksgiving at a Pacer’s game. But I did go up to Indianapolis over the holiday, and I saw the Pacers beat the Nicks. Even took a photo with my cell phone. Check it out:

Wasn’t much of a game though–the Pacers thoroughly tromped the Nicks. Funny thing […]

Britney Spears’ album debuts at #1

I thought she was already a has-been but I guess that little kiss with Madonna helped boost interest in Britney. Her new album debuted at #1 on the charts.
I’m also surprised by the raw numbers–nearly 600,000 copies sold this week. I’d have thought that this week before Thanksgiving would be kinda dead in […]

Economy grows at a blistering pace

Boy I don’t know that I’ve noticed this big a jump around here, but according to the Commerce Department the US economy had a huge jump in GDP last quarter. Major acceleration, a sign that we have come out of the economic doldrums. Of course one quarter is not proof of a sustained recovery […]

MJ’s web site

We’re not talking Michael Jordan. It’s the other MJ, Michael Jackson. Apparently, to help defend what’s left of his reputation, he’s started an official Web site. There he will post any official press releases regarding the child-abuse case.
A lot of celebs are doing this PR-Web-site thing when they’re in trouble. Didn’t Marth […]

Opus returns

I wonder if this is going to work–Berke Breathed is returning his Opus character to the Sunday funnies. I loved Opus when he was part of Bloom County, but he got kinda dumb in the Outland strips and it was a bit of a relief when Breathed retired from the comic strip biz.
Now he’s […]

Arnold sworn in

It’s official–Arnold Schwarzenegger is now the governor of California. Is this a great country or what? The guy comes to America barely able to speak English, becomes an action-movie megastar, then becomes governor of our most populous state.
It really does give hope to all of us immigrants–this really is still the land of opportunity.

CNET buys MP3.com

My employer just bought the MP3.com site. It sounds from the press release as though we mostly bought it for the url–the site itself and all the music files on it will disappear when the deal closes in early December. I hope we spent a lot less than the nearly $400 million Vivendi […]

8 out of 10 want new job

Wow, I would never have imagined that worker unhappiness had reached this kind of level–a survey by HR professionals found over 8 in 10 workers plans to look for a new job when the economy improves.
Of course many of them won’t actually do it, but still that’s a huge number. Why is there so much […]

Inmate in women’s prison is a man

Well, technically a man. Turns out this guy has been living as a woman for 25 years and apparently was in a Kentucky women’s prison for months before a physical exam found the, um, evidence that she was really a he.

Arnie hurting the California economy

This is kinda funny, unless of course you’re in the car business in California. Seems people are delaying their purchase until Governor Arnold comes thru on his promise to repeal the tripling of the vehicle license fee.
Once again, a politician’s promises can have unintended side effects. Luckily he’s going to be inaugurated soon, and hopefully […]
