My first snowfall (in a long while)
December 15, 2003The big news for most people this weekend was probably the capture of Saddam. But for me it was this weekend’s snow, the first major snowfall of the season, and the first snowfall I’ve seen in a long while.
Living in SF will do that to you–we all complain about how cold it is out there but it never really gets cold enough for snow. Once in a while, like on Mt. Tam, but not in the city and not in Emeryville where I used to live.
Here in Louisville it’s a different story–yes it gets really cold and yes we get snow, like this weekend’s snow. The spooky part for me was that I actually drove past the one and only traffic fatality that we had in the city due to the weekend snow. The two cars were plowed completely into each other, and I could see that the air bags had deployed in both vehicles. Unfortunately the air bags weren’t enough for the driver of the car-she died at the scene and both of her kids are in the hospital. The driver of the SUV, of course, was relatively unharmed. Though his truck looked pretty well totaled, which tells you something about how hard the two vehicles struck each other.
