Chrysler backing out of Lingerie Bowl

December 19, 2003

Those cowards–after agreeing to sponsor the planned pay-per-view Lingerie Bowl to air during half-time at the Super Bowl, Chrysler has decided to back out because of criticism that the show is “sexist”.

Well duh, I thought that was exactly the target audience the marketers at Chrysler were aiming for. The brand they were going to showcase was Dodge, and when I think of Dodge I think of manly trucks. No girly-girl pink cars here buddy, just manly Durangos and Ram trucks and Vipers. It was a perfect fit.

I think political correctness has just run amok. If guys can’t be guys every now and then, what the hell is the point of even having two genders? Even though I have absolutely no plans to watch the Lingerie Bowl, I don’t see the problem in having that kind of content available. It takes all kinds–if women can have Oprah every day then why can’t the guys have the Lingerie Bowl once in a while?
