Loving that Dish DVR

January 21, 2004

Okay, I know I should have been the good citizen last night and watched the State of the Union speech last night. But I didn’t–instead I was watching Mark Philippoussis dismantle the 2002 Australian Open winner, Thomas Johansson.

Watching it, that is, on my Dish DVR. I’ve had the thing for about a month but haven’t really used it until yesterday. I have the Dish special package where they give you two receivers and one of them is a DVR.

The thing is so easy–I just click around in the Guide until I’ve highlighted the program I want to record, select it, and then you’re done. So I recorded the day sessions at the Australian Open on ESPN. And watched the recording last night when I should have been watching the president’s speech.

I think what I like best about the DVR is the speed of the fast-forward. You can just skip over the commercials in a blink of an eye. And the image is so smooth even at the fast-forward speeds that you can still make out what’s going on so you know when to click back to normal speed.

Most importantly, you’re not limited by the space on a single tape, instead you have a large hard drive to store recordings. Mine is supposedly rated for 100 hours of recording.

I just love this thing. Highly recommended.
