Disney buys Kermit
February 18, 2004The House of Mouse has bought Kermit & Ms. Piggy. There’s already a partnership, as one of my favorite Disney-MGM rides is the Muppet 3-D attraction.
Of course all this is happening with the backdrop of the rejected Comcast bid for Disney. Obviously the Kermit deal had been in the works a while so it isn’t really related to Comcast. But one of the many scenarios is that Disney has to acquire something big, to make themselves too big to be swallowed up by somebody like a Comcast.
Either way, media consolidation is clearly the future. More and more media in the control of fewer and fewer mega-companies. Time Warner Disney, anyone?
