Peter Pan (2003)
February 22, 2004Grade: C
Yet another movie that I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for. Went to the Village 8 on Friday night to see the 2003 live-action version of Peter Pan. And while I wouldn’t say it was awful, it just wasn’t that good a movie.
We’re all familiar with the tale–a boy who can fly invites three youngsters to join him in Neverneverland where they battle the evil Captain Hook. The biggest problem is that I think I went in assuming this would be something of a kid’s movie, but from all the death and destruction on the screen I wouldn’t recommend it for kids at all.
And as a movie for adults it isn’t that entertaining–most of the time it is trying to be a kids movie, with faeries flying around and dark spooky castles. Then the very adult themes of revenge and murder (in the form of Captain Hook and his well-deserved hatred of Peter Pan) intrude upon the childhood idyll.
I’ll say this–for $2 I was reasonably entertained. But I wouldn’t recommend you see this unless, like me, you have nothing better to do that evening with your $2.
