What’s happening to journalism?
March 19, 2004What is with the sad state of affairs laughingly called “journalistic ethics”? First we had Jayson Blair at the New York Times, and now this Jack Kelly guy at USA Today. A reported who was nominated multiple times for the Pulitzer, and it appears at least one of those nominations was for a story he fabricated.
Why do these people think they can get away with that kind of thing? Lying in public, to a large audience. And with apparent reckless abandon. Is it a psychological problem, something that spreads easily among high-flying journalists?
At least these days media companies are being reasonably upfront when they uncover these issues. No more sweeping it under the rug and hoping it just goes away.
