HIV scare shuts down porn movies
April 16, 2004In a way this is actually good to know–apparently the major studios in the porn business test the sex workers regularly. One male star tested positive for HIV and so the studios have shut down production.
One thing I thought funny in the article was that it calls porn a “$4 billion to $13 billion-a-year industry”. That’s a pretty big spread, I’d say it sounds as if nobody really has a handle on how much money is in the business. A lot of us working on the Web of course think that porn must be really profitable or else all these porn sites wouldn’t be still in business. After all, bandwidth costs money so if you’re going to be serving up video streams and lots of gifs you need to have good revenue to pay for all that.
