It’s a Wi-Fi world after all

August 5, 2004

I’m sitting in the McCarron Airport in Las Vegas, on my way to my high school reunion in Boise, Idaho. They’ve got free Wi-Fi here so I’m able to send this entry from my laptop. Seriously neat.

Today’s trip originated in Louisville, and at that airport they’ve got Wi-Fi as well but it isn’t free. It’s Sprint and you have to pay a fee or be a Sprint PCS subscriber to get access to their Wi-Fi network. Still it’s amazing that there’s been Wi-Fi available at both airports.

Now my routing from here is weird (I’m flying Southwest so I’m at the mercy of their routes). I have to fly to Reno and then transfer on to Boise. I wonder if Reno or Boise will have Wi-Fi? Unfortunately in Reno I have a very narrow transfer because this flight out of Vegas is delayed. So instead of a 50 minute window when I could check for Wi-Fi there I have a 30 minute window. And it could get even narrower since the flight delay is only an estimate at this point. I doubt I’ll be able to verify whether there’s wireless in Reno’s airport.
