Shaun of the Dead: Funny little horror film
September 26, 2004This summer I’ve mostly avoided going to movies when they open–I wait to see if they’ll just come to the bargain theater in a few weeks so I don’t waste my money. But I wasn’t sure if the new comedy/horror flick, Shaun of the Dead, was the kind of film that would go to the bargain flicks so I decided to risk paying the normal ticket price and see it this weekend.
It’s a pretty simple story–a bloke in London tries to save his Mom and his girlfriend from zombies who’ve invaded. Shaun is such a Londoner though that his idea of rescue is to drag everyone to the local pub and have a pint while they wait for this zombie thing to blow over.
Shaun and his cohorts have to deal with their interpersonal conflicts as well as the oncoming man-eating zombies. He’s got a lazy roomie, a girlfriend who just dumped him, a Mom who re-married a weird guy, and a former girlfriend who’s kinda butch.
Definitely entertaining, I liked it a lot. Well worth the time and money, just be certain the theater has good speakers because it can be tough to decipher the British accents especially when they’re all yelling at each other.
