Whole grain Lucky Charms on the way
September 30, 2004Wow, good for General Mills–they’re set to anounce that all their cereals will soon be made from whole grains. Including kid-friendly favorites like Lucky Charms.
The company will say it’s driven by new science on the health affects of whole grains, cynics will say it’s really driven by the whole Atkins craze. Those cynics can point out that General Mills isn’t changing the sugar content, so it won’t be like the 1/3-less sugar Froot Loops I tried a couple weeks ago. All they’re doing is reformulating a little, kinda like New Coke.
I hope though that they are more successful at it than Coke was. Any effort to make packaged food a bit healthier is good for lazy people like me, who would rather eat packaged food than deal with all the cutting and cooking to eat whole foods.
