Burgoo is da bomb

October 3, 2004

I went back for a second day at the St. James Court Art Festival. Yesterday when I went I had already made lunch plans so I didn’t get to eat much. I bought some baklava (really good but too rich for me to finish the small piece they give you) and of course a Kizito cookie which I saved for later. But other than that I didn’t get any food.

So today’s trip was just a food trip. And I am so glad I went–I found a nice new stew experience called burgoo. It was a nice spicy stew, I think the one they were selling was pretty close to the Beaumont Inn recipe. I say that because it definitely had okra in it, and it definitely had a hint of Worcestershire sauce. I’m gonna have to try my hand at it some day, it sounds like a good recipe to do in a slow cooker.

Also had a non-alcoholic pina colada that they pour into a coconut shell. Kinda over-priced ($5) but it was a nice refresher given the warn afternoon sun.

Was tempted to buy some kettle corn as well, but I decided I’d end up wasting it. That’s what happened to me in San Francisco, when I’d buy the kettle corn from the farmer’s market at Civic Center. I would buy the bag on Sunday, but by the following Friday I’d not have eaten even half the bag and it would be already getting stale at that point. So this time I didn’t bother. Still, the smell was intoxicating and I was sorely tempted.

I just love the variety of food here. The people in Louisville definitely take their eating seriously.
