Too many country radio stations here in Louisville

October 22, 2004

Sorry I meant to post this a couple days ago but forgot. My favorite 80’s station here, in fact the only 80’s station that I know about, changed formats suddenly this week. Instead of “103.9 The Point” they’re “New Country 103-9“.

I wonder if they even told everyone at the station about the change, because for the first couple days I notied they appeared to have no DJ’s. It was just music and the occasional pre-recorded promo. It is part of the big Cox Radio company, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the company made these decisions and then just swooped in this week and fired everyone to replace them with this new format.

Now it’s not like I hate country music–quite the opposite, I have two country stations already programmed in my car radio, a couple pop/top-40, and then this one 80’s station. But now that they’ve changed formats I have three country stations programmed in. That’s too many, I’m gonna have to find some kind of alternative I can listen too.

It’s not like Louisville has a shortage of country stations–we got plenty to choose from, some that already play the so-called “new country” stuff like Kenny Chesney and Terri Clark. What we have now is a severe shortage of 80’s stations. How am I gonna get my fix of the Fixx, or Duran Duran, or the occasional Stevie Nicks?

It’s kinda like what happened to me a couple years ago in San Francisco, when the last country station in that area switched formats to reggae/world music of all things. I went without a country radio station until I moved here to Louisville. Now those corporate bastards have stolen my one 80’s station.

Hi, I thought it was just me that was pissed about the format change at 103.9. It sucks for sure.

Like you, I don’t hate country music. As a matter of fact, we most probably have an equal amount of country music CD’s in our music collection as we do any other music type. Louisville needs a replacement 80’s station NOW.

Somebody screwed up big time if you ask me. They had the market cornered here in Louisville and then they jumped into the country music pool with all the other fish. Dumb move.
