My boys lost
November 3, 2004The Democrats of course are still in denial, but it’s looking like Kerry has lost the election. For weeks the pundits kept saying how it was a statistical dead heat, within the margin of error, yada yada yada. But every poll consistently had Bush ahead of Kerry–yes sometimes it was only a couple points but all the majors polls had Bush ahead and those seem to be right.
Turnout was huge, and young people definitely broke for Kerry–some of the early exit polls showed 60% of those under 30 going to the Democratic ticket. But it wasn’t enough, Bush has been re-elected. Four more years of Attorney General Ashcroft stealing out constitutional rights.
The real heart-breaker for me was the loss by Mongiardo. Throughout most of the night, as the ballots were counted, he had a solid lead but it kept slipping away. Because the early counts were from the more metropolitan areas like Louisville where Mongiardo did well. Then the count moved into the rural areas like western Kentucky, where Bunning’s strength was just barely enough to squeak by.
Also it looks like Tom Daschle has lost the South Dakota race. That’s a bit of a shocker, that they would turn out the Minority Leader in favor of a newbie who won’t be able to get as much grift coming South Dakota’s way. Seems to be mostly a vote on social issues–Dakotans in general being more conservative than Democrats like Daschel.
Oh well, there’s always 2008.
