Serena loses to Sharapova

November 16, 2004

Kindof a bummer last night–Serena Williams was battling back against Sharapova but lost in three sets. She apparently injured her abdomen late in the second set, and that of course affected her serve. Instead of the usual 100 mph-plus bombs she was throwing in 70 mph whiffle balls in the third set. She still managed to get a two-break lead in that final set but it wasn’t enough against the tough-as-nails Russian teenager.

Hopefully this injury isn’t like the abdominal injury that plagued her sister Venus this year. Would be a shame since Serena looked like she was returning to top form, ready for a good 2005 season.
