Pixar does it again

November 27, 2004

Managed to go see the Incredibles while I was in Indianapolis (the Circle Center downtown has a multiplex squeezed into the building, but the theaters are really small). I’ve been waiting because I didn’t want to see it with a huge crowd of kids, I’m just a grumpy old man.

So anyway, I really loved this film. I can’t believe that Pixar has done it again. When I saw the previews last year for this film I thought it sounded dumb, like maybe they’d run out of good ideas finally. But no, it really is a great film.

Now a friend of mine in Chicago thinks it’s the best animated film ever, I still would go with maybe Spirited Away or last year’s Pixar gem, Finding Nemo. Not that there’s anything wrong with The Incredibles, but those two other films told much smaller stories in way that was more personal and touching. At its heart The Incredibles is kindof a big blockbuster type of story, which is fine but those types of movies inevitably devote more time to the fights and chases than to the characters.

Still, The Incredibles is definitely on the list of movies I plan to pick up when it comes out on DVD. As if Steve Jobs needs more of my money–I already own an iBook and an iPod. And a copy of Finding Nemo, of course.
