KMart doesn’t know how to promote a sale
December 13, 2004It’s strange given their long history as a discounter (people still use the phrase “blue light special” to talk about deep discounts), but I think KMart has forgotten how to do a sale. This past weekend there were little signs they placed all around their Hikes Lane store, promoting a “storewide sale” for Saturday and Sunday only. But when you go into the store you find out really that only a few items are on sale, scattered throughout the store.
To me that’s misleading–that isn’t a “storewide” sale. It’s a sale sure, but of a few selected items. The stuff I bought wasn’t discounted at all, it was regular price. So what kind of “storewide” sale is that?
Maybe that’s why they’ve been struggling of late–they just have lost the know-how of putting on a good sale. If so then I doubt the Sears merger is gonna help. Gonna be a shame–that Hikes Lane KMart is close and convenient. I’d hate to see it go out of business, though I admit I tend to go to the Target even though it’s a longer drive.
