Apple disables Real Networks’ hack

December 14, 2004

Apple has apparently released an iPod update that disables whatever hack Real Networks was using to allow Rhapsody content to play on an iPod. Seems really anti-competitive, I wish Apple were more interested in expanding the market than shutting competitors out.

They’re acting almost Microsoft-like in trying to defend their turf even at the risk of alienating customers. It’s as if IBM decided hey, you can only install IBM software on our IBM hardware. The PC market would be a much different place, much smaller place, if IBM had taken that tack when they went into that market.

Apple’s gonna kill the goose that’s laying the golden eggs for them.
