I got a PowerBook Duo

January 14, 2005

Okay, it’s a weird sickness but a couple days ago I won an old Apple PowerBook Duo on eBay. Unfortunately the guy is in Canada and for some reason he decided to ship via the state-owned mail system up there, Canada Post. So it’s gonna take a week or two for it to arrive.

Well, that’s not too long–gives me time to figure out how I’m gonna get a more-recent Mac OS installed. He said it had 7.0.1, and the most recent freely-available Mac OS is 7.5.3. I’ve been trying to create install floppies (since it doesn’t have a CD-ROM) but have had some problems since my machines here are all OS X. But a friend in our SF office, Trent, has the 7.5.3 install CD so he’s sending that to me inter-office. Hopefully that will help.

I’m kinda excited to have this little project to work on. My thinking is if I can get a decent version of Mac OS installed, and then something like MS Works, I can use the Duo as a little writing machine. A computer focused on letting me do the writing I’ve been promising myself I would do.
