Solar replacement lights

January 30, 2005

The little garden lights on the front of my house are just awful–the wiring has come loose in most of them so that they sometimes don’t come on at night. I have to walk by and jiggle the wires on them to make them turn on. Plus of course the timer is a fixed time, meaning if I don’t reset it then eventually the lights are coming on too early or too late given the changing sunset time.

I’ve been meaning to test out solar-powered lights as a replacement, but they’re always a little pricey for my taste–like $10 to $15 each. Well I was at Target yesterday and they happened to be closing out a bunch of solar garden lights, including a box of eight lights for $22. Perfect, and it was the very last box of the eight-pack on the shelf. Some kind of destiny, a sign from God that these lights are for me.

So I’ve installed two of them, next to the doorway, to test them out tonight. They need to recharge in sunlight, it’s a little gray today so they may not end up with a lot of power. But hopefully enough to see what they’re like tonight. It’s an amber glow that these produce.
