Quest for a Dreamcast
February 12, 2005So a couple nights ago on G4TechTV I saw a show about the top Sega Dreamcast games. For some reason I wasn’t into the Dreamcast when it came out, though I did get a Playstation 2 shortly after it came out. Don’t know why the discrepancy, maybe Sega didn’t do as good a job marketing it.
Anyway, the show reminded me that one of the best tennis games of all time, Virtua Tennis, came out on the Dreamcast. I loved that game in the arcades, and the Dreamcast version looks almost exactly like the arcade. So now I’m on a quest to get myself hooked up with a Dreamcast.
I’ve already bought the Virtua Tennis game–even with shipping it’s cheaper to bid on it on eBay, local stores are asking $10 at least. I got it for $6, including shipping, on eBay. Now I just need the console itself.
Unfortunately the few local stores that have it want I think too much. Books & Music Exchange (BME) wants $40. And on eBay people are always selling it with extras–games and four controllers and all that crap. Stuff I don’t want, but which bids up the prices to where I don’t want to pay. I’ve got a few feelers out to friends here who know friends who know people that might want to sell. In other words, if I don’t find one by next weekend I’m gonna swallow hard and pay the $40 to get it at BME.
