Freddie’s Sandwiches
February 13, 2005It’s funny how the memory works. I was at Whole Foods, and saw some Kettle Potato Chips which I haven’t had since I left San Francisco. I picked up a bag of the Sea Salt & Vinegar, a biting salty/sweet/sour taste that I have always liked for some reason. Definitely an acquired taste, not everybody likes these.
Anyway, when I tasted the chip the memory that came flooding back was of Freddie’s Sandwiches, a little hole-in-the-wall deli that was a few blocks from the original CNET offices on 150 Chestnut. It was one of the favorite lunch spots for CNET folks back in the day, not that the area had a lot of choices within walking distance.
But Freddie’s was definitely a great place to grab a nice big cheap deli sandwich. God I’d kill for a Freddie’s roast beef right about now. With a bag of Sea Salt & Vinegar Kettle chips, and a big Coke to wash it all down.
It’s been years since I ate there–not since CNET moved offices downtown. Man when I finally get around to going back to the Bay Area for a visit I’m definitely gonna stop by Freddie’s for a ‘wich.
