Nicholas Cage doesn’t have to act anymore
March 13, 2005I finally got around to seeing National Treasure last night, over at the Village 8. I actually enjoyed it, but through the whole movie I found myself distracted by the fact that Nicholas Cage wasn’t the least bit believable as this character.
This guy is supposed to be an ardent history buff who also happens to have a degree in mechanical engineering. But Cage didn’t even pretend to play that part–he was just Nick Cage, going thru the motions. This isn’t the same guy who was so good in Moonstruck. It’s not even the same guy who was semi-believable as the mild-mannered chemist turned action hero in The Rock. He’s just phoning it in this time around.
Still, like I said, I did enjoy the movie on its own terms. Won’t change the world but it was a fun action-filled diversion for a couple hours.

TrackBack URII agree. It was like a good beach novel; not life changing, but entertaining.
