It really is Internet Boom II

March 22, 2005

Things come in three–HP buying Snapfish is the third big Internet deal in just two days. This HP deal is kinda interesting, it’s a hardware manufacturer saying that they can’t make money these days just with hardware. You have to own some other part of the consumer chain. For printer companies it used to be that ink and paper was their big money maket but I guess even that’s not going to be enough in the future. At least not in HP’s view, so they’ve bought Snapfish.

Apple makes the iPod but they also have the iTunes Music Store to sell you songs for the iPod. Similarly, now HP makes the cameras and printers but they also offer the online storage and custom printing capabilities. Wonder what hardware manufacturer is next? Will Dell be snapping up something?
