Benched 205 today!

March 25, 2005

For the first time ever, I bench pressed over 200 pounds. Not very far over, 205 to be exact (a 45-pound olympic bar, with a 45- and 35- on each end). I was actually able to do five good presses so I think I could go even higher.

Probably still not ready for my big goal, which is two full plates on each end of the bar, 225 pounds total. But at least I am making small progress.

Of course my core is still flabby as hell–haven’t ever seen my abs and may never see them. Though it’s another one of my goals, to see my abs just once before I turn 40. But time is running out on that goal, for now I’ll focus on the more attainable bench-press goal.

    I’m impressed. :-)

Nicely done! I don’t know what my 1RM bench is. I’ve been working out without a spotter, so I’ve been doing dumbbell presses. I did 7 reps of 160, which equals a theoretical max press of 192. With a barbell, you usually get a bit more out of it, but I have no idea how much.
