Square button definitely feels different on the PSP

March 28, 2005

So there’s been lots of buzz about problems with the square button on the PSP. Because the button is right next to the screen, they’ve apparently had to use a slightly different mechanism for the keyclick.

You can feel it–the square definitely isn’t as stiff as the other buttons. It’s not that it’s mushy, it does click like the other buttons. But there’s less force pushing up at your finger when you press the square button.

Sony of course claims they’ve fixed the problem, though when I picked up my PSP the guy at the store said they had already had one return for a broken square button. Hope that’s not real, but just in case I do have the one-year extended warranty. Yes I know, those are usually a waste of money but in this case I figured I’d spend the extra $25 for peace of mind.
