Coldest lawn mowing weather ever

April 24, 2005

Today has got to be the coldest I’ve ever been outside mowing the lawn. Lat week this time it was like mid-70’s but the last few days we’ve had a big cold front that has lowered temperatures 20 degrees or more. And dumped a lot of rain on the area.

That’s the problem–my lawn is growing too fast and since Thursday I’ve been wanting to mow it. But since Thursday it’s been cold and rainy. Yesterday was really bad, drizzly all day long. Today it’s overcast but no rain, the lawn dried pretty quickly so I figured I’d better mow it now or it would be mid-week before I’d be able to do it.

It must be 50 outside tops, and with a stiff wind making it feel colder. I’m out there in sweats trying to stay warm while I push my little battery-powered mower around the lawn. Actually got finished pretty quickly, the cold seems to have made me move faster so I could get done. I didn’t hear a single other mower or leaf blower or any other lawn implements from anywhere else in the neighborhood. I think I was the only idiot out there doing any yard work.

This weather isn’t right–it’s the last weekend of April for heaven’s sake. It should not be dipping into the 30’s as it did last night.
