Movies-as-food metaphor
May 21, 2005I saw Sin City last night at the bargain theaters and it got me thinking about this movies-as-food metaphor I’ve been tossing around in my head. The idea is simple–describe a movie as a food item and justify.
So for Sin City I would go with cotton candy. It’s fun to watch, but it isn’t something you’d want to watch every day. Just like cotton candy–fun to eat, but only on a few occasions like when you go to the amusement park.
How to describe Revenge of the Sith? Pumpkin pie–again fun but it really doesn’t stand on its own. Pumpkin pie needs whipped cream, Revenge of the Sith needs the other Star Wars films. It doesn’t really stand on its own as a film, it’s truly part of a series.
Okay, you can see this metaphor doesn’t work very well for all movies. But it’s something I have been thinking about lately each time I watch a movie.
