Region-free portable DVD player

May 31, 2005

So I recently bought a cheap portable DVD player at KMart, and I know that these kinds of brands often are relatively easy to crack. The big name brands, like your Toshiba and Sony, are a lot harder to crack if at all. But the no-name brands usually have a relatively easy way to break the region encoding.

That’s where Google comes in–I did a search on my particular model and the words “region free” and found this posting. Followed the instructions to set my player to Region 0, which should mean it’s now region free. I do have a DVD encoded for Europe and it played fine but I cannot verify other regions as I do not yet have any other DVD’s. But so far it’s looking pretty good.

Not a bad deal, $100 for a portable and now region-free DVD player.
