Finally used up a sheet of stamps
June 16, 2005A couple summers ago I bought one of those sheets of 20 self-stick stamps. Bought it at a grocery store in the Bay Area, because I had to actually mail a letter to a person who didn’t have email. Yeah, I know–who doesn’t have email these days?
So anyway, I bought the whole sheet figuring I’d probably need them at some point. And over the past couple years I’ve been slowly chipping away at those 20 stamps. Mostly when I need to send a single check to a company and don’t want to bother setting them up in my BillPay at the bank. Like my insurance company–I send them one check every six months, it’s not worth cluttering up my BillPay with an entry I use so rarely.
And sometimes somebody else needs a stamp, usually for the same reason as me–mailing in a payment for a bill. And so I’ll give them one from my sheet. It’s happened a couple times, not often.
Or when I sent a check for the tsunami relief effort. A one-time event so I’m not gonna use BillPay for that. Though I guess they probably had PayPal set up somewhere and I could have used that to send in the donation. But whatever, I used a physical stamp and a physical check.
So today, I am mailing in two items–a rebate form for the laptop I just bought, and my car insurance. These are the last two stamps on that sheet. Now I’m gonna have to go buy another sheet.
