New LCD, new organization

July 20, 2005

So two things happened at work yesterday–IT replaced my old failing HP CRT with a huge Sony LCD, and the division in which I work got a big re-org. I still haven’t figured out which is gonna have the bigger impact on my work day.

The LCD is definitely an improvement over the CRT–colors and contrast are much better, and resolution is much better. I am running the LCD at the full 1280 x 1024 resolution whereas the old CRT wasn’t really usable beyond 1024 x 768. Which makes it much easier to swap between various open windows on my desktop.

The re-org is also an improvement, in that it brings sharper focus to some of the businesses and provides a clearer path for building future sites. But it also means a new boss for me, one out of San Francisco while I work here in Louisville. I can see advantages and disadvantaages to the cross-continental boss so it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

I am kinda excited about the new assignment–trying to figure out the technology pieces we will need for building those future sites. Help weave the disparate platforms we’ve ended up with (thru acquisitions and various upgrades) into a single platform for our future innovation.

I’m probably gonna fail at the job but at least it will be an interesting assignment in the meantime.

New boss??? I can’t wait to hear the details. You will be great at whatever they throw your way.

    That’s the spirit, Rex!
