War of the Worlds not as good as I’d expected
September 12, 2005I’ve been holding off on seeing War of the Worlds, because I didn’t want to give that crazy Tom Cruise my money. Didn’t want to be seen as supporting his wackiness by buying tickets to his movie.
But the flick finally made it to the cheap theater here in Louisville so I figured it was finally safe to go see. It’s still giving Tom some of my money but a lot less than what he would have received if I’d paid first-run price for my tickets.
The thing is, while it was a decent flick it just wasn’t quite as good as I’d expected. It’s never clear why Cruise’s character starts off as such a wimp, and the ending is rather uneventful. In between it’s a decent action flick, but the scenes that bookend it just felt flat.
Gotta admit though, the sound effect they came up with for the tripod scream is awesome. The shriek made my skin crawl.
