Half of all US airline passenger seats operated by a bankrupt airline

September 14, 2005

If Delta and Northwest file for bankruptcy protection it means that essentially half of all US airline seats will be operated by a bankrupt airline. A rather remarkable percentage, surely a sign of an industry in deep distress.

I’m just hoping United survives long enough for me to use my frequent flyer miles. I’ve got enough for a first-class ticket to Australia but I can’t afford a big vacation yet. Hopefully next year I’ll be in a position to take that trip and use my miles. United should actually be out of bankruptcy by then.
