I must have worse taste than I realized
September 15, 2005There’s that feature on Yahoo Movies where they extrapolate from the movies you’ve rated to recommend other movies you might like. I noticed this morning that it believes I would enjoy Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.
Clearly, I need to go over the 55 movies that I’ve rated at Yahoo and try to figure out why it thinks I would like such trash. I wonder if it’s because I liked Undercover Brother? That movie starred Eddie Griffin, who apparently also plays a major role in European Gigolo.
It’s made me really curious about how the Yahoo recommendation algorithm works. What is it about those movies I rated? What has led Yahoo Movies to think I would enjoy a Rob Schneider movie? Either something’s horribly wrong with me, or horribly wrong with their algorithm.
