Really sore legs
September 17, 2005Woke up this morning with really sore legs. I mean, it was painful to stand up and it’s been painful most of the day. I kinda dread sitting down because I know it’s gonna hurt trying to stand up.
It’s a major case of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). I did a leg workout yesterday (Friday) morning, the first real leg workout I’d done in over a month. See, ever since I strained my elbow in July I’ve not really been doing heavy upper-body workouts. And therefore I’ve mostly just been doing cardio–low impact stuff like the ellipiticals or walking on the treadmills. That in turn meant I haven’t really wanted to do leg workouts either.
So last week I was able to do a good solid couple upper body workouts without any pain so it looks like my arm is healed. That made me decide on Friday that I should do a leg workout. Clearly I over-did it, and also I did not cool down enough at the end. And I’m paying the price today.
The legs are still sore now, I expect that they won’t really feel back to normal until Monday at the earliest. Last time I had DOMS it took about that long, couple days, to return to normal.
