Who will run Germany
September 19, 2005Nice–I thought the Italians were the only European nation that had problems forming governments, but apparently the Germans have decided to follow suit. They’ve got a big mess over there, the recent elections left nobody with a clear mandate to run the country. It’s going to be chaotic for a few weeks until somebody figures out a coaltion that can lead.
At least for a little while. These kinds of coaltions are fragile, since they’re born of necessity and not because the parties involved actually want to align with each other. So maybe Germany will follow Italy in another way, by having another election sooner rather than later.
Oh and the other interesting drama here is that the conservatives should have won a convincing victory, if pre-election polling were to be believed. But clearly Germans lie to the pollsters as much as they do here in this country, because the conservatives basically managed just a draw against their opponents.
God I love politics. My favorite spectator sport.
