My first Woot
September 28, 2005So if you’ve never heard of them, woot.com is this odd little e-commerce site where they sell just one item per day. Every day at midnight Central Time (I think they’re based in Texas somewhere) they post that day’s item. They sell it all day long, or until it’s sold out. Then that’s it until the next morning at midnight.
It’s a gimmick that seems to have built a very fanatical following. There is apparently a fairly large contingent of people who stay up to check the woot.com site for each day’s new item. You can tell that because of the sales statistics–sometimes over half of that day’s products are sold within the first hour.
I’m not that fanatical, which also means though that I have missed out on some items I really would have liked. Because it’s sold out by the time I bop into work and get around to checking their site.
But this morning they had something I’ve been wanting, and it was still available. It’s a one-piece portable speaker system, from Saitek.
I have been looking for some nice portable speakers to take with me when I travel. So if you’re in the hotel room you can fire up the iPod and get some music instead of having to use headphones. Not necessarily the Saitek, I had been looking at the JBL On Stage but those are a bit pricier than I wanted to pay and they were only for iPod. Bummer if you want to use some other sound source like a portable CD player or something.
Hopefully this Saitek model will work out. I’ll let you know.
