Self-hosted Wordpress

November 17, 2005

So I haven’t migrated over everything yet, but as of today I’m hosting Wordpress myself rather than using Wordpress.com. I guess the big reason was that this gives me a lot more control. I may of course find I don’t like having control, but I do want to be able to do stuff like edit the page templates to incorporate Google Analytics. Can’t do that on Wordpress.com.

I was also able to import my old Blogger.com posts into Wordpress, again something you can’t do yet on Wordpress.com. Though Matt told me they were going to add it “real soon” to the site.

The missing piece is that I need to get the month or so worth of posts out of Wordpress.com and into my local Wordpress database. Amazing how easy this all was, I started it last night and did the last bit this morning.

I may need to go back and re-categorize all my old Blogger content, since Blogger doesn’t have the notion of a category. Don’t know yet if that’s going to be worth the effort.
