Personal Wiki
November 18, 2005So I’ve been playing around with setting up my own Wiki. The idea is I need a place to jot down stuff and a way to keep it all organized and searchable. So I’m thinking a Wiki might be the answer.
The advantage to this is that I can call up the Wiki page and insert the new text right there–no need to fire up a word processor or HTML editor or open up a shell to log into a docroot. Should make it much easier for me to jot down stuff, and since it’s all searchable I can retrieve things later.
So why not just put that stuff into this blog, why a separate application? I’m thinking it’s two different applications–the blog is a diary, a calendar of events. But the Wiki is a documentation tool, it’s exactly what I need to save off some cool programming idea I run across, or clip a recipe I’d like to try out, a place I’d like to visit, etc.
We’ll see I guess, whether I really use the Wiki much or it becomes a waste of space on the hard drive.
