Perhaps there’s life yet for KMart
November 24, 2005Based on the parking lot of my nearby KMart, you would think the chain is not long for this earth. They’ve got an enormous lot and yet when I go I’ve never had to park very far from the door. Because the lot is always so empty.
Therefore I figured it was a bit of desperation that they planned to be open today, Thanksgiving Day. I mean, who would want to go shopping at a department store on Thanksgiving? Grocery stores yes, but not KMart. Turns out I was quite wrong.
I dropped by the KMart this morning, wanted to pick up a couple CD’s that they had priced really cheap. When I got there I was surprised at how full the lot was. I mean, not really full but there were way more cars than I’d ever seen at this KMart.
When I got inside, it was pandemonium over at the electronics department. A long line of people waiting to get their hands on some GBA games they were selling. Apparently the hot sellers were some kind of Dora the Explorer game, and a Crash Bandicoot game.
Luckily it seems KMart had anticipated the crush, because they had two ladies at the counter doling out the GBA games. To prevent a mad rush of parents fighting to grab the games.
Unfortunately that’s the same department where they keep CD’s so I had to wade through that crush to get my CD’s.
