Loving the new Kanye West album
November 28, 2005So one of the few good things about the whole Black Friday madness is that you can try out music from artists you might not ordinarily listen to. That’s because all the stores have doorbuster specials on CD’s, you’re bound to find at least one that you had heard about but weren’t willing to buy at regular price.
This year I found a $7 deal on Kanye West’s new album, Late Registration. That’s cheaper than what you’d pay for it at the used CD store. So I picked up a copy and I’ve been listening to it all weekend long.
Now the lyrics are indeed explicit so this is not recommended for kids or people who are easily offended. He makes use of the “N” word in a large number of songs. If you’ve seen the Gold Digger video on MTV you may not realize because they’ve edited it out, but he uses it in the lyric:
I ain’t saying she’s a Gold Digger;
But she ain’t messing with no broke N…;
But I thought it was a brilliant album–great rhythms, lyrics that hit their target, just consistently good stuff. Very surprised, as I didn’t think Kanye would be the kind of artist I’d really like.

[…] Kanye West has a whole boatload of Grammy nominations today–both as performer and producer. I loved Kanye’s album, I hope it wins some of the awards it’s nominated for. […]
[…] I’ve got Kanye West’s Late Registration, which is number 12 on Amazon’s list. It’s definitely my favorite album of the past year. […]
