I’m way out of touch with pop music
January 20, 2006There used to be a time when I was really into pop music but clearly those days are long behind me. The proof is that of the 100 albums Amazon picked as the best of 2005, I only own two. Neither of which is in the top 10 either.
I’ve got Kanye West’s Late Registration, which is number 12 on Amazon’s list. It’s definitely my favorite album of the past year.
The other album on Amazon’s list that I have is The Emancipation of Mimi. Definitely my second-favorite album of the year, but on Amazon’s list it’s way down at number 61.
But that doesn’t mean much, since I only bought a handful of albums this past year. I blame iTunes–it’s rare that I buy an entire album, generally just the one or two songs I like. In fact it’s only been when I find some interesting CD at the store, usually the used music store, that I buy the CD. Everything else is singles bought on iTunes.
