My Woot taking a very circuitous route

March 14, 2006

So I’ve been wanting to get a little USB-powered drive that’s physically small enough to slip into the backpack but with enough capacity to store a couple DVD’s worth of data. Woot.com had the perfect fit for my needs last week so I snapped it up. The thing is, I’ve been watching the shipment on FedEx and it’s taking a very strange route.

First off, the package data was transmitted to FedEx on the 9th but they didn’t physically pick it up until the 13th. Which meant that the original scheduled arrival date of the 14th is out of the question.

The pick-up was in Irving, TX so I expected the next step would be eastward. Instead this morning the FedEx site says the package is now in Bloomington, CA. And the scheduled arrival date has been updated to this Friday, the 17th.

So it’s moving west, the wrong direction, before it heads back east towards me. This routing must make sense for FedEx but it sure seems a rather roundabout way to get this little package to my doorstep.
