The long goodbye
March 14, 2006I officially turned in my resignation yesterday, and today my boss gave the word that I can start letting people know. It’s kinda bittersweet–I’m happy with this new opportunity but at the same time there are many things and many people I will miss here at CNET.
Definitely going to miss wearing t-shirts and jeans every day. My new job isn’t quite suit-and-tie but at the very least I will have to dress business casual. Probably a tie, I’m not quite sure about that. Luckily I have a ton of ties from my brief stint as an analyst. My suits and shirts from those days no longer fit so those will have to be replaced but the ties are still fine.
I’ll miss the people too, dedicated folks who really do seem to care about the product they’re building. I wish them nothing but the best of luck, and I intend on remaining a member of the TechRepublic.com Web site.
I’ve boomeranged once before back to CNET, but this time feels different. I don’t think I’ll be coming back this way again. It’s been a helluva ride. Haven’t enjoyed all of it of course, but overall it’s been fun.

You didn’t tell me in person? I have to read it on your blog?
[…] Because of the new job, I have to buy some new dress clothes. So I decided to try Kohl’s, which I’ve never shopped but comes highly recommended by Beth. […]
Good luck Rex. Take it from me, CNET is a hard place to ge out of your system. Maybe it’s all the wacky people we meet there. I wish I was in town, we could have a Redneck Karaoke going away bash.
Hey,
Saw your email. Even though they “voted me off the island” I also miss the fun days. I have been here at Stanford Medical for 2.5 years doing infrastructure work (long story) in the blood business. It seems like there are not that many people left that I used to know still working there. Say, whose idea was it to fill up every inch of each page, Sal perhaps?
Happy trails and here’s hoping you make the Darby!
Fred
