Email as address book cleanser
March 23, 2006This morning I spammed out a bunch of people in my address book, letting them know that I was leaving CNET. The Exchange server here at work has been slowly reporting back the delivery failures.
I’m thinking if the email address I have for a person is no longer valid, I should probably just remove that person from my address book. I mean, email is my primary means of communication so if I can’t reach them via email they might as well not be in the address book.
It’s kinda sad, some of these people I’ve lost touch with go way back. I might keep them in the address book anyway, just remove the email entry.
But then for most of them the only thing I’d have left in the address book is their name. No address, no phone, no email, just a name. That seems sad too.
I’m really bad about staying in touch with old friends and acquaintences. I should work on that.

TrackBack URISpamming your address book certainly does weed out the deadwood. On the other hand, it also rewards those who hold fast to their e-mail address through endless onslaughts of viagra spam!
Hey, look at you, blogging your life for several years–I’m impressed. Now all you need is a (small) picture of yourself so your friends from 20 (30?) years ago can see ya.
Thanks for keeping in touch and I’ll drop by every once in a while to see what you are up to.
