Weird to still have access to the network

March 25, 2006

I was told that when an employee leaves CNET voluntarily, as I did, that they don’t terminate all your logins and email accounts until the next business day. So since I left on a Friday, that means my account is still active until Monday.

Knowing that was the case, before I left on Friday I went ahead and set up an auto-responder. Just to tell anybody who did email me over the weekend that I was no longer with the company. And whom to contact instead. Of course I could not include email addresses in the auto-response message since it also goes out to spammers who send to my inbox. Would not want to aid those creeps in snarfing down more email addresses.

The weird thing is that even though it’s now Saturday, I still have VPN access. Or at least I did until about 20 minutes ago. I actually logged into the network and used the Outlook Web Access client to deal with one piece of unfinished business–I’d forgotten to transfer ownership of the php-users mailing list. With that taken care of I have un-installed the Cisco VPN software that we use.

So now I’m finally and truly out of the CNET network.
