Should I re-alphabetize my CD’s?
I’ve been collecting CD’s for a very long time, I’d say about 20 years now. Though I’ve now largely switched to iTunes for my new music, for many years I was a regular buyer of CD’s and I still occasionally will pick up a copy. Basically I have accumulated quite a few CD’s–haven’t […]
What kind of guy makes the wife do the yard work?
I don’t like mowing the yard, in fact I don’t like any yard work. I know, that’s kinda un-manly and definitely un-American. A well-trimmed, bright green lawn is one of the un-alienable rights they talked about in that there Constitution, right?
But anyway, this year I’ve actually been paying the neighbor’s kid to mow […]
Mercury News sold
The San Jose Mercury News, the paper of record for the Silicon Valley, was sold yesterday. It’s a kinda complicated deal, not as bad as some of the multi-team trades in pro sports but close. Newspapers will be changing hands, percentage of ownership will change, tons of moving parts in the deal.
In the […]
50% haircut on CNET
CNET stock has fallen something like 20% since the earnings announcement on Monday. But based on the average strike price for my few remaining options, that’s a 50% haircut in terms of my proceeds should I sell the stock.
In real dollar terms it’s not much, I don’t have that many remaining options. […]
Kumar admits fraud at CA
Sanjay Kumar, the former CEO at Computer Associates, admitted to perpetrating a multi-billion dollar fraud while he was at CA. So at least the government convicted one of the crooks caught up in the whole accounting-fraud thing. Remains to be seen if they’ll get the Enron guys, Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling.
Kumar is […]
Standing-room-only airplanes
I was wondering when this would happen–Airbus is pitching the idea of standing-room-only airplanes. It would obviously only be for short-hop flights, but it would let airlines squeeze a lot more passengers into a plane. Kinda like everybody squeezing into a rush-hour train car.
I suppose it could also speed up disembarkation. Everybody’s […]
May have missed my shot at selling CNET shares
When you leave a company you have I think 90 days to sell any vested stock options. So I should have until early June to sell the few remaining CNET options I have. But after today’s quarterly earnings announcement it’s going to be worth less than I’d hoped for.
They announced a […]
Great new single from the Dixie Chicks
I was a Dixie Chicks fan before the troubles of a couple years ago, but I’m even more of a fan after hearing their new single “Not Ready to Make Nice“. It’s in the grand tradition of artists using music to say what is really on their minds, it’s gutsy and brave and on […]
Ms. Kentucky crowned Miss USA
As a less-than-average-looking, over-weight, guy I’ve never been fond of beauty pageants. They only help to glamorize an unhealthy fascination in our society for super-skinny women with perfect teeth and long flowing hair.
And yet, I admit it’s kinda cool that Miss Kentucky won the Miss USA crown this year. A girl from my […]
Is Google now the big bully?
Interesting, there’s reports that eBay has been talking with Yahoo and Microsoft about a potential alliance to fend off the threat from Google. Suddenly Google’s not the little guy that we all root for in its battle against the evil Redmond. Now it has become the big bad behemoth making moves into other […]
